remediate

Remediation was a direct translation of my repurposing project into a different medium. I took the stories that were published on the Unfortunate Hookups website, and created a series of comic strips.

One of my fellow classmates, Sarah Leeson, gave me the idea of creating comic strips. It sounded like a great idea, unique and creative, but then I had a startling realization...I can't draw. I was looking for an unfamiliar medium to explore; so, despite my lackluster art skills, I endeavored on a journey of comic creation.

These strips were directed towards the same audience, a large pool of women, and held the same comedic value, just with an additional visual component.

It was very difficult to incorporate the underlying values of self-respect and confidence, but I managed to bring them together by portraying a confident, I-don't-give-a-flying-fuck attitude in my character (who is truly sassy and independent). I believe this showed that you can be so happy and independent without having a special someone.

In contrast to that struggle, I found it very easy to give readers a clear visual of the situation! Having read both the stories on the website (link) and the comics, I think readers would gain a lot in a visual sense.

The only other difficulty that was faced in the remediation project was figuring out how to navigate the Bitstrips (the comic creator that I used) site. By the third strip, I was able to use characters confidently and place them in a setting similar to the ones used in my story.
